In today’s Nutrition Tip of the Day video, we discuss our first of the Top 3 Nutrition Misconceptions – let’s set the facts straight!

#1 – Carbohydrates Make You ‘Fat’ – Carbohydrates are perhaps the most misunderstood macronutrient when it comes to nutrition, exemplified by low/zero carbohydrate diets.

o Carbohydrates cost as much energy as protein, at 4 Calories/gram.

o Carbohydrates are the most easily digested nutrient, as their digestion can begin as early as when they enter the mouth!

o Carbohydrates have just as much potential for energy storage as protein and fat if they are consumed in excess.

o Carbohydrates are the body’s preferred energy source, including the brain. A lack of regular carbohydrate consumption in the diet will make for decreased performance with any high-intensity activity.
